When I was a little girl, I had a pen pal. (Click that link, Em. You need to know how we did it back in the day!) As of today, you and I have blog. And, I am beyond excited!
Writing is the painting of the voice. -Voltaire
There are SOOOO many reasons that I want to write letters to you; and why I want to share them on a blog:
I'm a first-time mom and you're my pride and joy.
You were born in The Middle East and we live far away from all of our family and friends. By reading our letters they share our journey.
Maybe we can reach out to other families in the UAE. It's hard starting a life and a new family in a foreign country. (Finding the right Dr, specialist, hairdresser, ice cream vendor, nursery school, stockists of water wipes, ladies stockings, custard powder or decent organic chicken, isn't as simple as it once was or might seem.)
Maybe you and I will meet some new friends this way. Or, even better, maybe these families are just as new as we are. Maybe our experiences will be of help to them or make them smile when they're missing home.
And because, I am suddenly in the unenviable position of knowing what it's like to really miss your mommy! You see, I met you not so long ago. And in a life-changing moment, I met myself for the first time as a mom. Then, less than 4 months later, I lost my own mom. (I'll tell you all about her throughout our time together.) There are things I would love to ask her. Photos and videos that I take of you that I long to send to her. So, I will share these with the community that we build here. I will create a little treasure trove of letters for you. Because I know what it's like to wonder what your mom would say. Because I'd love to be sitting, having a coffee with her. Because I'd love to hear her tell me that story one more time, about when I was 3 and hugged my pet chick too hard. Because some days, I go into the bathroom to have a moment alone and away from parenting, where I can just be someone’s daughter, and I listen to old voice note messages from my mother.
What will we talk about?
Gosh, let's cover it all!
Next week I'll drop you a letter to introduce you to yourself, as you are now.
From there? Who knows! But ideas are keeping me up at night more than you do! Perhaps we will discuss our favorite things? Pregnancy and complications related to PPROM and experiencing this far from "home" is another conversation I'd like to have with you. I want to tell you about the things you eat; our BLW journey, baby-proofing our EVERYTHING, the things that worked for us and those that didn't, things that scare me and things that make me feel like I've got this.
Anyway, dinner is on the stove and I'm luxuriating in the nap-gap. I'll write again soon.
All my love,
Mommy
P.S. Dad's going to be home really late. Be a lamb and go easy on me tonight :)
